Lawrence is a experienced, warm and effective qualified therapist (BACP Accredited) with ten years clinical experience of working with individuals and couples (same/opposite sexes). He has counselled at RELATE, Hungerford Drugs/Alcohol agency, PACE and the Terrence Higgins Trust. He has been working in the NHS as a counsellor in the NHS in a community setting, counselling adults, and working as part of a multi-disciplinary medical team of consultants, nurses and other mental health professionals. He also has several years experience of providing group emotional support for people living with chronic illnesses. Lawrence provided group supervision at Terrence Higgins Trust for three years.
Lawrence has experience of working with a variety of issues among other things, around relationship concerns, trauma, pregnancy, anxiety, stress, anger, self-confidence and low self-esteem. He has years experience of working with people living with life-threatening chronic illnesses, the diagnosis and acceptance of these.
His basis of working is mainly working with the individual as a whole and how issues affect them and relationships. He works with the here-and-now, in contact with the person, exploring loneliness, depression and feelings associated with being marginalised. He has experience of working with a diverse variety of clients from different cultural backgrounds.
Lawrence has worked in Sexual Health helping adults/couples explore issues and concerns around sex, sexuality HIV and addictive behaviours. He qualified with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling, and an Advanced Professional Diploma in Gestalt Studies, but draws on his own life experiences in his work. He can provide brief-term work, or longer open-ended contracts, suited to the individual's needs.
