I am a Humanistic Counsellor qualified in the Person Centred approach to counselling. I provide, friendly and comfortable environments in my consulting rooms in North Shields (approx 7 miles East of Newcastle) and Gateshead (1 mile South of Newcastle).
Apart from the Person Centred approach to counselling I will use the skills and techniques of other approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (currently working towards diploma) if I believe these will be of benefit to the client.
Some of the issues I deal with are stress (including work related stress), anxiety, depression, low self esteem, anger management, emotional and physical abuse, post traumatic stress, relationship issues (currently training in Couple Counselling with RELATE), bereavement, painful childhood memories/experiences

Further Details- Andrea is a person-centred counsellor offering individual therapy. Andrea chose counselling as her profession as she is extremely passionate about helping people towards achieving a more content and happier life.
She aims for counselling to be an empowering experience enabling clients to develop helpful coping strategies towards positive change and personal growth. Andrea’s approach is truly about working with client’s inner resources, strengths and goals.
She is currently working within private practice in Whitley Bay and Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear. She uses an integrative approach and has integrated many therapies such as CBT, gestalt, mindfulness, motivational interviewing and Solution-Focused therapy into her work. Andrea’s areas of work include: low self-esteem, stress, anxiety, depression, post-natal depression, bereavement, grief and loss, work-related issues, abortion, bullying, divorce and separation, miscarriage, childhood trauma, personal development, communication problems, infertility, abuse, low self-confidence, affairs and betrayals, retirement, alopecia, excessive worrying and many more.
Currently, as well as Andrea’s private counselling practice, she works part time for the NHS within GP surgeries. Andrea has a proven record in helping people to feel well enough to return to work from sick absence. Her NHS role involves delivering low intensity (LI) CBT interventions, including; cognitive restructuring, behavioural activation, guided self help for clients with various mental health issues. Guided self help focuses on empowering the client and working collaboratively with them so that they learn practical solutions to cope with their problems.
Previous to this role, Andrea worked as a voluntary school counsellor for Place2Be and Tyneside Women's Health where she provided client-centred counselling for women with mental health problems. She was also a volunteer counsellor at Barnados Orchard Mosaic project where she worked with bereaved teenagers until she was successful in her current NHS position.
